Will you do training in departments?
Yes, the University Organizational Development consultants provide consulting services and conduct training on all campuses.
We do not have a limit, but you should check with your supervisor. Attendance at training programs is to be approved by the immediate supervisor.
There is no charge for the consulting services, and most of the training programs are free. Occasionally, a small fee will be charged for a specific event to cover outside speaker fees, food, etc.

A good practice is to talk it over with your supervisor to see what skills would be beneficial to bring to your present or future job.
Time away from the job to attend approved job-related training programs does not have to be charged to accrued time or made up.
The supervisory/management classes are designed for people who are presently in supervisory positions and will be most beneficial to those who can immediately apply the learning. These classes would also prove beneficial to those who are about to become supervisors, and their attendance would be encouraged. Others should wait until their careers include (or are soon to include) supervisory responsibility.
All employees of Indiana University are eligible to take classes.
The handouts for most classes are designed to be used in class and would not be meaningful without class attendance. We, therefore, prefer to provide handouts only to those in attendance, who have the benefit of processing the contents in a classroom setting with a qualified instructor.
Supervisors have a major responsibility in the success of employee training. Their responsibilities include:
- preparing the trainee for training by emphasizing the importance of training and setting clear expectations
- discussing and reviewing new knowledge with the trainee
- providing opportunities for practicing new skills
- encouraging and supporting the trainee during skill building phases
- celebrating staff development.
Continuing Professional Education credits are available for accountants and police officers in accordance with Indiana University's sponsorship with the state agencies. Accountants and police officers should call us at 812-855-3020.
Continuing Education Units are not available for taking our classes.
You are expected to have a positive attitude towards learning, engage fully in the learning process, question areas of non-understanding, make your needs known and practice your new skills.
Yes, much of our time is spent consulting with management about specific departmental needs and custom designing and conducting training in individual departments. The advantage of this is that intact workgroups can receive the training at the same time, and it can be designed to meet their specific needs.
