The keynote speaker for this year's event is Diane Hillmann, noted metadata expert and Director of Metadata Initiatives for the Information Institute of Syracuse: About Diane
Hillmann has worked extensively in digital library development for the past decade, and has considerable project management and metadata experience. She has been involved with Dublin Core since its inception, as the editor of "Using Dublin Core," former administrator of the AskDCMI Service, co-moderator of the DC Education Community, and former member of the DCMI Usage Board.
She is also active in the library standards community, having served several terms on the MARC Standards Advisory Committee as a liaison from the law library community and as a LITA representative. She currently represents the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative on the ALA Committee discussing the new Resource Description and Access (RDA) standard.
In addition, Hillmann serves as the Standards Coordinator for the Library Information Technology Association (a division of the American Library Association) and was recently appointed to the NISO Content and Collection Management Topic Committee.
Hillmann was previously Research Librarian at Cornell University Library and Director of Library Services and Operations of the National Science Digital Library (NSDL). At NSDL, she was responsible for the NSDL Metadata Primer, participated in the Digital Library Federation OAI and Shareable Metadata Best Practices Working Group, and was co-PI with Dr. Stuart Sutton for the first phase of the NSDL Registry. She continues to work on registry development.
