FOR RELEASE: January 5, 2000 |
As part of Indiana University's ongoing effort to provide popular software to its faculty, staff, and students, the Stat/Math Center has negotiated a University-wide site license agreement with SPSS, Inc. This Enterprise License Agreement makes SPSS statistical software for Windows available to Indiana University SPSS users. Included in the software package under this agreement are SPSS Base and three add-on modules (Regression Models, Advanced Models, and Tables). Individuals who wish to use other modules may purchase them through the Stat/Math Center or directly from SPSS, Inc.
"We're very excited to bring this opportunity to Indiana University," said John Samuel, director of the Stat/Math Center. "The agreement makes it more cost-effective to provide this popular statistical software to the University community."
From 10am to noon on Friday, January 14, an SPSS Event, sponsored by University Information Technology Services, Interdisciplinary Consortium for Statistical Applications (ICSA), and SPSS, Inc., will take place in the Whittenberger Auditorium at IUB. After a memorial tribute to Bernhardt Flury, the first director for Statistical Consulting Service under ICSA, Jing Shyr, Vice President of Research and Development, SPSS, Inc. will present a talk on "Statistics and E-Commerce." This will be followed by the announcement of the license agreement and a demonstration of SPSS software.
At IUPUI, the SPSS event will be broadcast via live video at the University Library, Lilly Auditorium. It will also be broadcast on the Web at http://www.indiana.edu/~statmath/ (Note that this is an experimental broadcast and therefore no support will be provided by the UITS Support Center.) Following this event, IU faculty, staff, and students with a valid IU ID will have the opportunity to receive a free copy of SPSS. This CD giveaway will take place from 12pm to 5pm at the following locations:
After 5pm on January 14, the SPSS CD will be available on all campuses for $5. For the locations, see http://www.indiana.edu/~statmath/stat/spss/ela/software.html
