We propose to develop/improve applications for remote astronomical observing. These applications will enable us and others to make efficient use of high-speed, long-haul network links (such as Abilene and vBNS) to remotely control a research telescope in Arizona, to enable much greater educational access by graduate and undergraduate students to a world-class remote facility, to promote collaboration with remote academic and research institutions, to help perform high-speed networking research, and to make a significant contribution to the field of remote astronomical observing.
