Executive Summary

Envision a three-dimensional experience, that immerses the end user into a VR enhanced, cinematic and interactive tour of the Mayan city of "Chichen Itza". Imagine choosing a tour guide from multiple points of view (a Mayan priest, slave or warrior). Texture these experiences with computer generated modeling of architecture and artifacts and listen to contextual rich narration that places the end user inside the ruins with authentic sounds, stories and real video. Integrate this experience with multiple levels of interactivity and levels of engagement that are user-directed and information driven. This description of the project, entitled "A Documentary Tour of Chichen Itza". The project will produce a CD-ROM and DVD that merges multiple layers of narrative and visualization effects with levels of user engagement. Additionally, the project will test this application as a teaching tool delivered through the Internet 2 labs at IUPUI, IUB, and field testing at the University of Illinois advanced visualization laboratory.
