IUB Interbuilding (Backbone) Connectivity

Most IUB buildings are connected to the campus computing network infrastructure using Ethernet data communications equipment and fiber optic cabling (Figure 1). The transmission rate for these connections is Fast Ethernet (100Mbps) or Gigabit Ethernet (1000Mbps). The data path from the one building to another building is illustrated.

Where campus fiber is not available, buildings are connected at T1 speeds (1.54 Mbps) as illustrated (Figure 2).
