The UITS Regional Campus Technical Support division provides its university-wide customers with the knowledge of and planning for state-of-the-art telecommunication systems.
Provide expertise and leadership in developing communication service requirements relative to campuses environment and university standards. Manage, coordinate, and administer the development and installation of voice communication systems for all regional campuses and develop long-range planning guidelines. Approve system designs for all telephone switches and voice mail systems on the regional campuses. Appraise the overall performance and costs of all voice delivery systems.
Research and prepare requests for proposals and bid specifications for new telecommunications equipment and distribution systems. Provide analyses of technological changes, which affect operational functions.
Maintain inventories of all regional campus telecommunications equipment and facilities.
The Wire and Cable Services (WACS) division of UITS have developed the University Technical Standards documents for all campuses. These standards, which detail the telecommunications facilities requirements for each campus, are available at this link. Coordinate with WACS and regional campuses for the implementation of telecommunications distribution systems.
Monitor telecommunications regulations and proposed rules to assess the impact new regulations will have on the University. Maintain knowledge of tariffs and conduct communications traffic studies to assure the highest grade of service at the lowest cost.
