Biomedical Applications Intern
The intern will gain experience in the practical application of information technology to real-world Bioinformatics problems, including gaining exposure to common information technologies used in bioinformatics (such as relational databases and perl) and learning about the full lifecycle of software engineering involved in building databases and processes to input, store, retrieve, and analyze biomedical data.
Description of duties:
- Help maintain and enhance the central repository for the international Collaborative Initiative
on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (CI-FASD).
- Build web-based tools for helping users of the central repository to retrieve and analyze data.
- Help maintain and enhance the National Gene Vector Laboratories web site.
Qualifications required:
- Ability to design, implement, and test moderately complex software programs.
- Basic knowledge of Software Engineering.
- Basic knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP)
- Basic knowledge of Web Programming.
- Basic understanding of Relational Databases.
Qualifications Desired::
- Knowledge of at least one OOP language (Java, C++, etc.).
- Familiarity with Unix-based operating systems (Unix, Linux, etc.).
- Familiarity with Perl and/or PHP (or similar languages)
- Familiarity with Oracle and/or MySQL.
- Familiarity with life sciences research and statistics.
