Position Available: Computer Consultant
The UITS Support Center has full and part time consultant positions. Consultants are required to work at least 20 hours per week. The starting wage is $8.75 for most shifts and $9.75 for graveyard and weekend shifts. We ask for a commitment to work at least 2 full semesters (Fall and Spring).
Consultants provide technical assistance to IU students, faculty and staff on all campuses via phone, email and walk-in. Duties for all consultants include answering a wide range of IT related questions including email, networking, installing, configuring and using software and hardware, central file storage, supporting commonly used systems such as Oncourse and OneStart, and writing and updating technical articles in IU's Knowledge Base. Some consultants also report and track system outages and support more specialized applications and systems. We are committed to treating all customers with respect, finding a solution for every customer, and delivering that solution in a timely manner. We are happy to assist everyone at IU regardless of their level of computer expertise.
Applicants should have prior customer service experience, proven technical skills, the ability to work independently, excellent written communication skills and the ability to speak English clearly and well.
We currently have openings for the following team(s):
- Windows: This team answers questions related to computers running various versions of Windows via phone, email and chat.
- Mac/Unix: This team answers questions related to computers running various versions of the Mac OS as well as Unix command shell issues via phone and email.
- Information Commons: This team provides 24/7 staffing for the Support Center. Consultants answer a wide range of questions via walk-in, phones, and email and should have troubleshooting skills in workstations running both Windows and Mac OS. Walk-in customers often need assistance with their IU passwords and accounts or wireless networking issues. Some consultants also report and track system outages.
