Device Management Systems Engineer - PA3IT
Description and Responsibilities:
Works with technical engineers on exciting projects and is at the forefront of emerging technologies around Indiana University; and helps guide university technical decisions around innovative business solutions.
Demonstrates proficiency for advanced system management skills, technical design, training, analysis, programming, and other tasks related to the implementation, development and architecture of Workplace Deployment and Device Management Ecosystems; i.e. Enterprise JAMF Casper service at Indiana University for all schools and departments across all campuses. Effectively participates in cross-group collaborations and helps develop the strategy which unifies and standardizes Indiana University.s Workplace Deployment and Device Management solution utilizing tools and/or resources like JAMF Software (Casper Suite).
Establishes priorities, assigns functions and maintains policy governing Workplace Deployment and Device Management Solutions at Indiana University; and leads all change management activities necessary to ensure runtime goals match the strategy and objectives of enterprise services. Provides and applies comprehensive knowledge to bug reporting and isolation, test case authoring and refinement, automation scripts, and work closely with other teams (engineering, cross functional and cross campus) to resolve highly complex and difficult problems.
Responsible for participating in the system design, implementation, research, and troubleshooting of complex issues within the enterprise Workplace Deployment and Device Management environment. Establishes metrics and monitors system configuration to ensure data integrity and optimum system performance metrics are obtained; and oversees enterprise service upgrades, modifications, and reinstallations related to the enterprise service components. Analyzes and evaluates new capabilities and emerging technologies related to the enterprise-wide Workplace Deployment and Device Management Solution.
Analyzes capacity data and develops capacity plans for enterprise-wide system; and provides technical leadership for strategic projects and initiatives on the enterprise Workplace Deployment and Device Management roadmap. Develops security policies and standards and development of infrastructure and service disaster recovery plans.
Develops training materials necessary for successful implementation of the enterprise Workplace Deployment and Device Management Solution in a multi-tenant environment. Works to standardize and automate repeatable tasks and steps across multiple accounts while providing expert guidance and mentoring to more junior team members; and participates in information sharing and roundtable discussions which provide advice and leadership to CIC partners, k-12 school corporations, and other colleges and universities as directed.
Responsible for working with other University Engineers to develop and publish white papers related to Workplace Deployment and Device Management Solutions at Indiana University. This includes submission of these white papers to technical conferences.
REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and three years of experience.
Combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Solid understanding of standard client/server, networking, and Internet fundamentals, superior knowledge and demonstrated technical proficiency in MAC and iOS management in medium to large environments. Solid understanding of all aspects of MAC and iOS management including Inventory, Imaging, Patch Management, Software Distribution, Remote Control, Settings and Security Management, License Management, Usage Management, and App Distribution.
Preferred: Experience working on enterprise projects or systems in and around MAC and iOS device management services; experience in other device management technologies, including Active Directory services (AD), Global Service Exchange (GSX), and Software Update Server (SUS), Microsoft System Centered Configuration Manager (SCCM); and knowledge of the following: Mac OS X scripting, PowerShell and virtualization of OS and applications.
