Knowledge Commons Intern

Project overview:

The IU Knowledge Commons is an online collaborative environment for sharing information in support of the Indiana University community. It is publically accessible at http://wiki.iu.edu. Anyone with an IU Network ID, may login to create new pages and edit existing ones, comment on any page, add labels to any page, submit feedback, or create a Community Of Interest.

An internship is being offered for a student to engage with the community of users in this environment and help identify ways they can make best use of the environment. The intern will also look for ways to improve the environment (i.e.: navigation, user interface, content architecture) via feedback from users, and through analysis performed by the intern.

Description of duties:

Monitor activity in IU Knowledge Commons and engage with users via email and wiki comments. Review user experience and accessibility reports for the service and propose/implement potential solutions. Participate in meetings with project team and help inform of the use and potential use of the service. Engage and promote use of the service within the university community.

Qualifications:

Experience with CSS, XHTML, and wikis required. Previous or concurrent coursework with focus on HCI, UI, or information architecture is desired. Experience with XML, Javascript, Velocity, Python, Java, or Confluence API is a plus . but not necessary.
