Lead Network Systems Engineer - PAE3IT

Description and Responsibilities:

Works closely with clients both within IU and in the research and education community to accomplish the installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and day-to-day maintenance of state-of-the-art networking equipment and software for several R&E network projects such as the Indiana Gigapop, Internet2, and the National Lambda Rail network. Exposure to a wide variety of technologies and opportunities in the R&E networking community provided.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and three to four years experience in the areas of design, integration, installation, configuration, and maintenance of data networks required. Experience with several link-layer protocols (Ethernet, SONET, ATM, Frame-Relay, and PPP) required. A broad knowledge of networking protocols, specifically relating to routing of packets (OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, PIM, MSDP, and MPLS) required. Ability to handle multiple priorities and constantly changing demands and to work effectively in a multitasking environment needed. Experience with Cisco and/or Juniper routers required. Experience with optical technologies, especially WDM, programming in Perl or C, and basic UNIX system administration, are highly desired. Working knowledge of other Internet services and applications within the IP suite (TELNET, FTP, NNTP, DNS, SMTP, HTTP, etc.) is also desired. Experience with large scale projects helpful; interpersonal, technical writing, and communication skills and understanding of the network standards and protocols highly desirable.
