Manager, Enterprise Systems Administration - PA4IT

With a high degree of independence, manages the planning, operational design, implementation, management and maintenance of enterprise computing environment in support of University-wide applications. Oversees the management of a multi-terabyte data environment including capacity planning, performance management, data protection and disaster recovery. Participates on applicable advisory committees composed of faculty, University administrators and representative users. Prepares and manage the operational budgets in support of system administration. With the Director and AVP, develops detail budgets in support of IT Strategic Plan funding. Works with processing and storage vendors to understand their product offerings and develop plans to implement solutions in Linux and Windows environments that maximize capacity at the minimize cost for the University. Manages software licenses and support agreements for major software vendors including IBM and Computer Associates.

Qualifications: Baccalaureate degree required in Computing or Information Sciences. Relevant professional experience may substitute for degree. Seven years of computing experience including at least two years in systems administration. Previous budget and direct supervisory experience is required.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities: Demonstrated project leadership experience is required as is experience with Unix, Linux and system management software. Requires in depth technical knowledge of multiple hardware/software technologies and architectures. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Background must demonstrate the ability to operate effectively as a member of a team within a complex, dynamic environment. Experience with enterprise-scale system administration is strongly preferred. Direct experience in managing technical services is highly desirable (university setting preferred) .
