Manager, Education & Outreach, Research Technologies - PA3IT

Description and Responsibilities:

Ascertains needs, creates, coordinates, and leverages education materials and coordinate outreach efforts for the Research Technologies Division of OVPIT, the Indiana University Pervasive Technology Institute, and the scientific research community within and outside IU. Creates new education, outreach, and engagement materials related to the most advanced computing technologies in existence; and updates, changes, and creates new materials as technology changes. Supervises all activities of Research Technologies staff related to education and outreach, and coordinates with other UITS and PTI education and outreach staff. Plans, organizes, schedules, and controls the flow of outreach and education in accordance with all relevant laws, policies, standards, and budgetary constraints.

Particular areas of focus include: Creation, development, delivery of outreach to local campus and state community in Indiana, and outreach to the national research community. Most of this effort will be focused on local outreach, including K-12 programs such as supercomputing visualizations and movies, RobotCamp and IUPUI Minority Education Advancement Program at IUPUI, as well as community service events. In addition, develops and maintains campus outreach and training program to raise awareness of services and systems available to researchers in the IU research community.

Creation, development, delivery of outreach within the IU community . with particular focus on regional campuses and those disciplines that are not already frequent or heavy users of advanced cybverinfrastructure resources. Based on the incumbent.s own expertise in information technology, develops new written, video, and audio materials that will be read by IU's leading research faculty.

Leads the successful pursuit of funding for training and outreach activities; and leads grant proposal writing and submission, where appropriate serving as Principal Investigator. Leads and carries out education and outreach activities as specified in grant awards; and through successful pursuit of federal funding, expanding the Research Technologies / PTI program to further outreach to a broader community.

Qualifications:
REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computational science, information technology, or closely related field and four years experience in developing and implementing information technology related education, outreach and training.

Possess working knowledge of information technology; and excellent writing and public speaking skills in a variety of contests . from preparation and delivery of highly technical material to technical material prepared for a general lay audience of adults and/or children. Self-motivated as well as willing to work in a collaborative environment where knowledge and effort are shared among colleagues; and knowledge of IU policies regarding human subjects research and programs involving children.

Preferred: Master's degree and familiarity with high performance computing and advanced computing technology/tools as well as prior experience working in a multi-person education, outreach, or training group at large high performance computing center or advanced research organization.
