Network Specialist - PA2IT
Description and Responsibilities:
Performs installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance in support of the voice and data IUB Layer One network and cable facilities with minimal supervision. Assists in the design, development, and implementation of policies and procedures to improve the Layer One network reliability, functionality, and efficiency; participates in the implementation of data and voice networking strategies, protocols, and procedures; and provides technical assistance to other IU personnel in relation to the network.
This position will involve project management and team leadership responsibility to install and maintain voice and data circuits, telephones, and cable facilities, including current protocols and equipment, convergent VOIP protocol equipment, and related equipment.
Qualifications:
REQUIRED: Bachelor Degree in Telecommunications, engineering or closely related field and one year experience in Layer One network installation and maintenance.
Directly related and progressively more responsible work experience may be considered.
Valid driver's license with ability to be insured by Indiana University.
Demonstrated ability to master such concepts on the job with minimal training and guidance; possess good troubleshooting skills; capability to analyze complex technical problems; and to demonstrate an interest and curiosity about the above subjects. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; disciplined work habits; and strong attention to detail.
Preferred: Knowledge of TCP/IP and VOIP convergence related protocols; Network management protocols and/or hands on experience with various Ethernet standards, especially Cat5E and Level 6/7network installation and maintenance; and/or basic electronic experience.
