Network Operations Technician - TE08 (Posted for university employees only)

Description and Responsibilities:

Under general supervision, the Network Operations Technician will provide support to the Global Research Network Operations Center.s (GRNOC) daily shift operations with primary responsibility requiring high level network monitoring, problem analysis, tracking, and resolution, with strong customer service skills. This position will help lead and assist General Support Technicians with diagnosing problems and taking appropriate corrective action for networks including IU campus/statewide networks, and other IU supported national and international research and education networks.

The Network Operations Technician will maintain a more thorough knowledge of all networks in general; review technical documents, prepare, update and maintain network documentation. Assist in the development of other Service Desk support staff for all networks.

The job includes rotating shift work, including nights and weekends.

Qualifications:
Required: High School diploma plus 2 years. post-secondary education, and 2 years of experience in the areas of network and computer operations, or customer service and support, or telecommunications. Directly related and progressively more responsible work experience may be substituted at a 2:1 ratio.

Knowledge of current operating systems and desktop software required; demonstrated knowledge of local and wide area networks is a plus. Good oral and written communication skills required, as are demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills.
