Operations Analyst - PA2IT
Description and Responsibilities:
Performs tasks related to the operations group to manage, plan, and implement the automation of operations processes for both distributed and virtual server environments under moderate supervision.
Participates in the formulation of project plans to incorporate new technologies to improve execution speeds, system throughput and service availability. Performs duties requiring the research, evaluation, implementation, and documentation of production automation and system operating processing technologies. Activities include problem determination, information communication, resolution and application of vendor fixes, preventative software maintenance upgrades, updating of related tables, and associated testing of new devices and paths, performance tuning and capacity planning, and testing of new product releases and feature enhancements as it relates to operations monitoring software tools.
Creates documentation and procedures to support this production-automated environment; modifies vendor-supplied packages and utilities for server and infrastructure monitoring to adapt them to the University.s operating environment. Responsible for insuring appropriate monitoring of the data center infrastructure components (i.e. CRAC, chillers, UPS, generators etc.) including remote monitoring of the IUPUI . ICTC Data Center during after-hours and weekends.
Qualifications:
REQUIRED: Bachelor degree in computer science, engineering, telecommunications, or related field and two years of computing experience such as data processing operations, systems
analysis, programming, support etc.
Combinations of related education and experience will be considered.
Knowledge of systems analysis, systems software, and hardware; in-depth experience in data center operations for both large systems and distributed systems; and expert knowledge of all hardware, software, networks, environmental protection systems (fire, HVAC, chilled water, security), and automated systems directly related to the operation of the computing systems located within the data center. Ability to communicate in a professional manner to all clients and staff; ability to participate in performing full and incremental system backups to published schedules; and ability to work at a high technical level on all phases of automation software/hardware implementation.
Preferred: Experience in a university environment.
Note: Shift schedule work required. Current hours 12 midnight . 8:00am Sunday through Thursday.
