Positions Available: Journalism and New Media Student Interns
Pervasive Technology Institute (PTI) www.pti.iu.edu at Indiana University is seeking two student interns to start in July 2009 and continue through the fall semester of 2009, with the potential to be retained through spring semester.
Student interns will work under the supervision of the PTI Manager of Strategic Initiatives in a high-tech, academic environment. Tasks will be assigned based on an intern.s experience, interest, and aptitude and may include but are not limited to the following:
- Writing and editing of news releases, Web, print, and video content related to PTI projects and activities.
- Filming and editing of video blogs, events, and other short video presentations.
- Layout and design of print and online materials for use in PTI external relations and EOT efforts.
- Assistance with logistics and external relations related to special events.
- Is a student pursuing a degree in journalism/and or new media with at least a Junior class standing at the start of the 2009-2010 academic year. Other majors will be considered if student has desired skills/experience.
- Will have demonstrated experience in at least two of the following: writing and editing for print and Web; layout and design of print materials; Web site design; filming and editing of short video content. Students with video experience are especially desirable.
- Will have the ability to learn about complex topics related to science and technology, and communicate them to a lay audience using writing and/or film media. Students pursuing minors in a science or technology discipline will be given special consideration, though a science background is not required.
- Will be able to communicate confidently and professionally with research scientists, faculty members, business professionals, members of the news media, and top IU administrators.
- Will be comfortable working in a collaborative, multicultural environment.
Interns will be paid an hourly rate set according to the candidate.s skills and level of experience. Students will work a flexible, 20 hours per-week schedule that can be planned around classes and coursework. Students must be able to complete at least 10 hours each week on-site at the Institute between the hours of 9 am -5 pm Monday through Friday to attend meetings and plan projects. Most additional hours may be completed off-site, on evenings and weekends dependent upon the student.s access to the required technology. PTI is currently located in the Showers Building, downtown Bloomington at 501 N. Morton St. The Institute will be moving in August, 2009 to a brand new Incubator facility located at 10th Street and the 45/46 bypass (across from Tulip Tree apartments). The area is served by both IU and city bus routes.
