Principal Network Systems Engineer - PA4IT
Description and Responsibilities:
With a team of network engineers and professionals, provides technical leadership in support of advanced local, regional, and national research networks. Works with network owners to plan, design, implement, and operated advanced networking systems and services, concentrating on new networking technologies and support methods to provide reliable, high-performing, multi-layer infrastructure for research in science and humanities.
Qualifications:
REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in computer science of other related technical field and five years related experience.
Combinations of related experience and education may be considered.
Experience in the areas of planning, operation, installation, and maintenance of data networks, both in the enterprise and wide area; possess a broad knowledge of current networking protocols and technologies, such as OSPF, BGP, MPLS VPN, Ethernet, IPv6; and experience with routing and switching systems from Cisco or Juniper.
Possess expertise and ability to work with diverse teams on complex projects to satisfy customer requirements; and ability to work effectively in a multitasking environment, handling multiple priorities and changing demands. Ability to think creatively and to speak, present and write clearly and effectively, particularly in effectively communicating technical ideas and concepts to peers and customers.
Preferred: Experience with optical technologies such as DWDM; experience with additional platforms such as Brocade, HP, and Force10; understanding and experience in Software Defined Networking (SDN); and ability to conduct training classes and make presentations.
