Position Available:Security Matters Researcher (Hourly)
Researches and develops episode topics and ideas for Security Matters, an educational, online video series produced by the Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research. Security Matters provides easy-to-understand instructions and advice for personal security online. Episodes are kept to under three minutes to maximize impact and efficiency. The Security Matters researcher will develop potential episode ideas, and practical instructions for implementation. Recent episode examples include: Changing Facebook passwords, using social media in a safe, responsible way, and clearing cookies from a variety of web browsers. The Security Matters researcher will identify emerging trends and basic knowledge alike, then present actual instructions to a member of the CACR team responsible for writing the Security Matters scripts. The researcher will be asked to develop two to three ideas per week; those ideas, and subsequent step-by-step instructions for implementation, will be presented to a representative of CACR for review and approval. The Security Matters researcher will look for developing trends in cybersecurity as well as more general, basic instructions for nontechnical computer users. Position will require approximately 10 hours per week.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Applicants should possess excellent knowledge of cybersecurity and online security trends, and, more importantly, should be able to translate them in a manner accessible by the general public. Security Matters aims to educate a diverse audience that is seeking practical and useful information to protect itself online. Applicants should be able to write clear, step-by-step instructions for solving online security issues in a timely manner. Experience in online video production or script-writing is preferable, though not required. Episodes of Security Matters are available online at:www.securitymatters.iu.edu.
