Senior Analyst Programmer - PAE3IT
Working under general supervision within the UITS Advanced Visualization Lab, this position provides visualization consulting and software development for University researchers and educators. Participate in projects to be performed in the lab, which include, but aren.t limited to, the following: development and support of scientific and biomedical visualizations; visualization of abstract information spaces; and interactive simulations. Most developments will utilize advanced technologies such as stereoscopic displays, multi-touch interfaces, motion tracking, and/or virtual reality. Applications and tools will be designed to function in a distributed, heterogeneous environment incorporating scientific instruments, high-performance computers, massive data storage systems, and a range of desktop and advanced 3D display devices.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in science or related technical discipline, preferably in computer science and/or scientific visualization, along with a minimum of
three-four years related work experience required.
A combination of education and work experience may be considered in a 2:1 ratio. Graduate degree preferred.
Programming experience in computer graphics required, with a strong preference for programming experience in C/C++ and OpenGL on multiple computing platforms, including Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Experience with visualization tools and toolkits, including Data Explorer, VTK, and IDL helpful. Working knowledge of networking principles and network programming required. Experience with design and implementation of distributed systems helpful. System administration and hardware configuration experience with Windows, Mac OS X, and/or Linux required. Experience with virtual reality, digital media, and GUI development methods helpful.
Experience with providing visualization, programming, and system administration services in a university environment highly desirable. Must be able to work with external vendors and technical support groups. Demonstrated ability to work with users and with complex technical issues requiring mature judgment and creativity essential. Must be able to operate effectively in a complex and dynamic environment. Knowledge and practical experience with project management and software engineering methodologies and tools helpful. Excellent oral and written communication skills required. The ability to interact successfully with staff and faculty in extended consultations and to work with people with varying levels of knowledge essential.
