Senior Communications Specialist - PA3PR

Description and Responsibilities:

Serves as the U.S. Desk Editor for the eScience publication International Science Grid this Week (iSGTW*) for the IT Communications Office. Works in the role of Senior Technology Writer/Editor as part of an international collaborative team. This team is led by the iSGTW Editor in Chief, who is located at CERN, and will receive local management support from the IT Communications Office, part of the Office of the VP for Information Technology.

Qualifications:
REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree English, journalism, computer science, or other arts and sciences and three years of writing and editing experience on a scientific or technical topic.

Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications and presentation skills; very strong editing, research, project management, problem solving, and collaboration skills; and strong experience editing an online publication, preferably on a science or technical topic.

Experience using a CMS system to edit websites; strong negotiating skills with the ability to achieve consensus; and ability to work independently, prioritize, set and meet deadlines, and take initiative. Ability to work with speed, accuracy, attention to detail, and willingness to learn and ask questions; good customer service skills, sense of humor, ability to tolerate frequent interruptions, tact, and practicality; and ability and willingness to travel both domestically and internationally as many as 2-3 times per month.

Ability to use software for word processing, email, spreadsheets, editing, graphics, file transfer, and communications.

Preferred: Experience working as part of a distributed team. Experience with working in an international project. Understanding of trends in online marketing techniques and social media. Graduate degree in science, journalism or communications, knowledge of basic HTML.

Note: This position is guaranteed for two years with the possibility of renewal. Must be willing to travel approximately 20% - both domestically and internationally.

Other: *iSGTW is a weekly online magazine co-funded by the e-ScienceTalk project, a dissemination project of the European Commission which brings the success stories of U.S., European, and global cyberinfrastructures to the general public, policy makers and scientists. The U.S. Desk Editor position will be funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation and will reside at Indiana University.
