Senior Systems Analyst Programmer, Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research - PA3IT
Description and Responsibilities:
Working virtually independently undertakes highly-complex tasks including engaging with collaborators to understand and document their existing systems and requirements, developing a model that spans multiple communities, publishing peer-reviewed articles for dissemination, and giving presentations at national workshops and conferences.
Designs and develops new identity management software to support scientific collaborations; leads design and development of the software including its release and support; and works with one or more collaborators in deploying, testing, and improving the new system. Oversees a technical writer to assist with documentation and paper authoring and; provides guidance to other junior staff in Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research (CACR); and assumes responsibility for analysis, design, and development of identity management solutions for the Advanced Identity Management project.
Studies and documents existing identity management solutions; analyzes them to determine similarities and differences; and designs a framework that encompasses those solutions while clearly articulating overlap and variance. Develops, tests, deploys, and supports identity management services targeted for DOE communities. Performs advanced technical tasks while working with user communities and answering their questions; incorporates their feedback, producing and maintaining technical documentation. Authors and presents presentations on experiences and contributes to academic papers; and authors reports to CACR management and funding agencies.
REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in computer science or other related technology area and four years experience in the development of complex software systems.
Experience in software development and programming; experience in one or more scripting languages such as Python, PERL, Ruby, and Bash; and excellent understanding of wide area computer networking. Experience working in a Unix/Linux environment; good interpersonal skills with ability to work as part of a team; and understanding of identity management concepts such as authentication and authorization. Excellent oral/written communication skills, presentation skills, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred: Experience with distributed scientific computing or identity management; and experience with Globus, Condor, or other grid middleware.
Other: The Advanced Identity Management project is a three-year project from the Department of Energy to analyze and document existing identity management solutions in use by science communities, create a framework encapsulating those solutions, and develop and deploy new software to improve existing implementations.
