System Administrator (CREST)- PA3IT
Description and Responsibilities:
Provide server and operating systems management and administration to the Center for Research in Extreme Scale Technologies (CREST) http://pti.iu.edu/crest/about. Develop, implement, and manage server and web services. Perform tasks related to the system administration including configuration, installation. Perform tasks related to the system administration of Unix, Linux, and Mac OS X systems used for research computing. Set up systems and configure systems for maximum security. Manage deployment of servers and workstations. Responsible for the installation of hardware and software, performance tuning, system and application software maintenance, system monitoring, capacity planning, problem resolution, and retirement of systems. Lead efforts to integrate the infrastructure between CREST and campus. Identify and deploy management strategies for alternate portable equipment such as iPad and iPhone. Manage interface configurations and user documentation for computing resources. Create and maintain scripts for complex machine images deployment. Provide service information and technical support to staff. Manage and respond to ticket system for techical support. Provide technical expertise and support for meetings and events.Manage systems deployment, updates, backups, and maintenance. Manage the acquisition, tracking, and disposal of computing assets; manage capital assets including CAMS annual inventory.
Serve as client consultant to other colleagues, clients and external research partners. Provide support for researchers and developers building software. Code computer programs. Develop program module test procedures, generate required test data files, and execute testing procedures. Apply advanced techniques from the cluster research projects in real-world cluster scenarios in support of CREST staff and external research collaborators. Actively participate in and contribute to CREST cluster research projects.
Experience with open-source technologies such as MySQL and/or PostgreSQL databases, Apache Web servers, Tomcat Web servers, Linux, Subversion, Trac, and Drupal is highly desired as is experience with Web site monitoring and testing software. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential.
