Gerald L. Bepko Student Internship Program 2008-2009

Each year, University Information Technology Services (UITS) selects student interns to work on exciting, strategic information technology projects at IUB and IUPUI. Students from populations traditionally under-represented in the IT field are encouraged to apply.

Internships require a minimum of 10 hours participation a week for which the intern will earn a stipend. With appropriate approvals, academic credit may be obtained.

  • Visualization Intern - IUB or IUPUI The intern will work on a variety of lab initiatives, including creating advanced visual content for demonstrations and existing lab projects, assisting with new visualization and/or spatial technology exploration through installation, testing, and maintenance, as well as hosting lab demonstrations and participating in local outreach efforts.

  • Biomedical Applications Intern - IUPUI The intern will gain experience in the practical application of information technology to real-world Bioinformatics problems, including gaining exposure to common information technologies used in bioinformatics (such as relational databases and perl) and learning about the full lifecycle of software engineering involved in building databases and processes to input, store, retrieve, and analyze biomedical data.

  • Communications Office Intern - (2 internships) IUB & IUPUI Interns will conduct research and will assist with communications that build student awareness in IU's IT services, and will also be involved in research on new (or expanded) ways for communicating to students.

  • Oncourse Quality Assurance Intern - IUPUI The intern will participate in the Oncourse course management team as well as the Sakai (www.sakaiproject.org) open-source community, and will gain experience in the practical application of information technology to real-world system problems, including gaining exposure to cutting edge information technologies used in building and supporting enterprise instructional and collaborative research systems.

  • Cybersecurity Intern - IUPUI The intern will review existing security guides and informational articles for accuracy and completeness; and, suggesting and developing timely articles covering new issues related to cybersecurity.

  • Database Intern - IUB The intern will work with Enterprise Infrastructure Database staff and will be exposed to commercial-grade database systems and the underpinnings of this technology, as part of the effort to provide an appropriately designed web presence.

  • REN-ISAC Intern - IUB The intern will assist in the development of database systems and tools supporting the cyber security incident notification processes of the Research and Education Networking Information Sharing and Analysis Center (REN-ISAC).

  • Disaster Recovery Intern - IUB The intern will assist in the development of the University's IT Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) and Business Continuity Plan (BCP).

  • IT Training Multimedia Intern - IUB Assist with the creation and organization of multimedia content used to inform the university community about new technology developments, software tips and tutorials, and other training and education resources such as instructor-led workshops.

  • Adaptive Technology Intern - IUB or IUPUI Learn about adaptive technology, information delivery via alternate media and web accessibility. Gain knowledge about IT policy creation and the development of best practices. (Internship filled)

  • Tactile Graphics Support Intern - IUB Assist with production of mathematical and other documents in a tactile form for students, faculty and staff. Create sample documents for a tactile graphics library for the ATC. (Internship filled)

  • Multimedia Design & Production Intern - IUB or IUPUI Develop skills in multimedia and online development projects, including media design and production, graphic design, and web programming.

  • ePortfolio Training & Development Intern - IUB Assist with the creation and organization of training content for Oncourse CL and ePortfolio.

  • Online Support Intern - IUB Help develop a strategy to raise awareness of IT services to students, staff, and faculty.

  • Instructional Technologies Intern - IUB Gain experience working with technologies that support teaching and learning in Higher Education and the opportunity to participate in an open, community source software project.

  • Network Distribution Intern - IUPUI The intern will be exposed to the infrastructure components of data networks by working directly with network engineers on cable and wiring installation, data switch/telephone installations, and switch/telephone configurations and keeping records.

  • Telecommunications Infrastructure Intern - IUB The intern will work directly with network engineers on cable and wiring installation, switch/telephone/access point installations, and switch/telephone/access point configurations. (Internship filled)
