TOPS Vendor System (Apr, 2001)
The TOPS purchasing system is beginning a redesign to better serve IU business staff from all campuses in managing vendors, submitting and approving purchase requisitions, purchase orders and contract orders. U C S has contributed in the early stages of the Vendor system with heuristic evaluations and design recommendations in preparation for actual usability testing with participants from that user community. To allow purchasing staff from multiple campuses participate, UXG will be conducting remote sessions using NetMeeting videoconferencing software.
Falcon Customer Relationship Management Application (November, 2001)
The Falcon Customer Relationship Management Application is a system that IU purchased to help categorize and track the information technology problems fielded at IT help desks at IUB and IUPUI. The UXG lab helped the Falcon project by testing how employees were categorizing incidents and how the system's organization could better match the actions of the employees. The UXG lab tested a total of 20 help desk employees from both campuses. Users from IUPUI were tested through Microsoft NetMeeting (see related Usability Tip). View the Falcon report (pdf 102 kb).
Common Files System (CFS) (December, 2001)
Common Files System, frequently called CFS, is a computer storage space for students, staff, and faculty at Indiana University. Having replaced Lockers, CFS is accessible from any networked campus workstations or from off campus via the Internet. The UXG lab specifically tested the interface for users accessing their accounts via the web (http://cfs.indiana.edu). We participated in the testing, analysis, reporting, and redesign of the site which will be implemented shortly.

IT Training and Education (Dec, 2001)
Formerly known as STEPS/PROSTEPS, IT training provides a large variety of training for students, faculty, and staff interested in improving their skills in information technology. The UXG lab led the usability testing of their latest web site (http://ittraining.iu.edu). During the testing period, we were able to work closely with the developers, creating a more collaborative approach to incorporating user centered design changes into the system.
