Electronic Research Administration (ERA) (Jan-Mar, 2003)
Paper testing of the Main Routing Form for ERA was conducted with six representative users from both IUB and IUPUI campuses during mid-late February 2003. The purpose of these sessions was to assess how well the proposed interface changes to the current ERA system support users' goals for entering in and reviewing their research grant details. WebMail II Study (May, 2003)
Indiana University's WebMail program was due for a major overhaul in 2003. The developers wanted to conduct a usability study to help identify potential problem areas. Seven students participated in the study and over 50 usability recommendations were made. Although only a few of the recommendations were ultimately implemented, subsequent analyses of support call data revealed that problems identified during testing (e.g. How to delete an email message, how to add an address) continue to be the primary reasons for users' support requirements. WebMail II Survey (July, 2003)
In conjunction with the 2003 WebMail study, we conducted a survey with 294 users of the new WebMail beta program. From the data analysis, we made recommendations on system default settings and strategies for letting users know what features are available in the new application. Although these recommendations were not implemented for the first release, it is hoped that the development team manages to consider them in their next release.
