What is The Undergraduate Scholar? (less)

The Undergraduate Scholar is a student-run academic journal sponsored by the Hutton Honors College. Our goal is to publish and recognize quality undergraduate academic writing.

• The Scholar is not limited to Honors College members. Any current IU undergraduate may submit to the journal, and all students are welcome to join the staff.

What kind of papers are you looking for? (less)

The Scholar accepts non-fiction academic writing from all disciplines, including the sciences and humanities.

• For an example of a paper the Scholar has published, click here to view Emily Crandall's “Is Tupac Alive? Myths of Resurrection, Manhood, and Thug Gangsta Life.”

How do I submit a paper? (less)

Having your work published in the Scholar is a way for your work to be read and recognized. You can submit your paper by via e-mail to undergraduate.scholar@gmail.com (subject line: Submission) or by visiting the Submissions Page and submitting an electronic copy.

What kind of format should I use for citations? (less)

Please use whichever format is appropriate to the paper. We do require that you have citations with direct page references if direct quotes are used. Also, please use endnotes rather than parenthetical citations or footnotes.

The Scholar itself adheres to the Chicago Manual of Style, and any issues with citations will be addressed during the editing process.

How can I get involved with the Scholar? (less)

Working with the Scholar is a great way to get experience with editing and layout as well as an excellent way of meeting other students who are interested in writing. You'll also be able to read and reward the ideas of your peers.

You can become involved with the Scholar by coming to meetings and helping out in areas you're interested in. We need student volunteers to help us find manuscripts, read and edit them, choose cover art, and work with the layout of the journal. If you would like to find out more about getting involved or attending a meeting, contact us at undergraduate.scholar@gmail.com (subject line: Involvement).

What kind of time commitment is involved? (less)

We don't have a specific, binding time commitment we ask of our staff members. We encourage staff members to get involved in projects they enjoy and we welcome and appreciate the time you're able to give.

What kind of artwork is the Scholar looking for? (less)

We are currently accepting prints of all kinds of artwork to illustrate the journal, including photography, painting, pottery, and sculptures. For consideration, submit a .JPEG or .JPG photo/file of your artwork to undergraduate.scholar@gmail.com (subject line: Artwork).

Where can I find a copy of the Scholar? (less)

Copies of previous editions of the Scholar are available at the Hutton Honors College, 811 E. 7th Street, or at our Publications Page.

What if I have other questions? (less)

We invite you to write to undergraduate.scholar@gmail.com. We respond to all e-mails within two weeks.
