Victorian Studies is . . . required reading. . . . the world of Victorian scholarship would be unimaginable without it. . . . Scholars believe they have reached their acme if their article appears in VS.

Victorian Studies is . . . the premier journal in the field. . . . Scholars uniformly delight to have their work accepted for publication in its pages, where what shows up gets read and talked about.

ne of the first interdisciplinary journals in the humanities, Victorian Studies remains the flagship journal in the field.  Publishing essays on topics from literature, social and political history, fine arts, science, philosophy, economics, and law, Victorian Studies is the journal of the North American Victorian Studies Association and publishes a special issue annually devoted to the Association conference. Recent contributors have includes Mary Poovey, James Vernon, Amanda Anderson, Catherine Gallagher, Martin Hewitt, Phillippa Levine, Garrett Stewart, Harriet Ritvo, and Jeffrey Cox.  Recent essays have concerned Central American ruins, love at first sight, the Suez Canal, the Proms, religion and British imperialism, and the digital publication of nineteenth century scholarship.

The journal hires four graduate student editors, who copyedit essays and reviews, help in the selection and planning of special issues and forums, correspond with contributors, and assist the faculty editors.  Former editors now edit other journals in the field, and teach at schools around the continent.  Fulltext articles from recent issues of Victorian Studies are available at Project Muse.
