The IStream service provides web-based streaming of classes, lectures, meetings and other events. Live streaming and recording for on-demand access are offered, with a choice of video and audio, or audio-only. Windows Media Player or Flash Player is utilized to view or listen to streams. On-demand audio-only files can also be downloaded as an MP3 file and played on personal audio appliances.
The IStream service can support approximately 12 simultaneous H.323-streaming events at any time. The streaming archive server (which stores the recordings of H.323 videoconference events) currently has approximately 2 terabytes of storage capacity, and efforts are underway to make a true database backend for better organization and retrieval of valuable archived files
To produce the video or audio, the classroom or meeting room must be equipped with Polycom videoconferencing equipment. Here is a list of equipped rooms Live and recorded streaming can coincide with a standard videoconference, or can be independent of a videoconference.
