Videoconferencing Fees

The primary videoconferencing technology that we use for distance learning and administrative conferencing at Indiana University is technically termed H.323. This type of videoconferencing utilizes the ubiquitous IU data network, the Internet and Internet2 networks. A technology termed H.320 is used when the conferencing partner doesn't have an Internet connection of sufficient bandwidth or quality to support H.323 conferencing. H.320 utilizes ISDN telephone circuits.

Videoconferencing fees are determined according to use of H.323 or H.320. There are no usage fees for Internet connection, therefore H.323 conferencing doesn't include a usage-based fee component. H.320, utilizing ISDN telephone circuits, does entail per-hour charges for ISDN connection when IU places the call.

H.323 Internet-Based Videoconferencing Fees are based upon IU affiliation and include two components - a set-up fee and a room support fee as follows:

  Set Up Room (Per Hour)
IU academic no charge no charge
IU administrative no charge no charge
IU affiliate organizations $100/event $50/room
External organizations $250/event $150/room
