H.323 Videoconferencing at IU

At Indiana University, we conduct videoconferencing using the H.323 videoconferencing standard. H.323 that allows for 2-way voice and video connections over the internet (IP). Plug an H.323 system into a standard IU datajack and you're ready to videoconference with other H.323 systems within IU and throughout the globe.

IU's DMNS provides enhanced services for all Indiana University H.323 users, including:

  • global address book for familiar "name-based" dialing
  • video bridge for multi-site conferences
  • gatekeeper for access to enhanced services and reliable global dialing
  • gateway for adding "plain old" telephone callers to a videoconference as voice-only participants, or to connect to legacy ISDN-based (H.320) videoconferencing systems.
  • video help desk for real-time conference troubleshooting
  • consulting for special event coordination, system purchases, audio-visual integration
