Building on Indiana University's emerging strength in eighteenth-century studies, we are pleased to announce the first annual Bloomington Eighteenth-Century Studies Workshop, May 22-26, 2002. Twenty-one scholars from across North America, approaching the topic of "Signs of the Self" from a wide range of disciplines, have been invited to present and discuss their work in a congenial setting (Bloomington in late May is lovely). The workshop emphasizes cross-disciplinary debate: all papers are pre-circulated, and all participants are expected to have read them. Given the extraordinary quality of the proposed essays, this year's workshop promises to be an intellectually exciting beginning to what is scheduled to be an annual event.
