Sarita Soni has been vice provost for research at IU Bloomington since 2006. She is also professor and interim dean at the IU School of Optometry. As vice provost for research, she is responsible for coordinating and developing research across disciplines and schools at IU Bloomington. She oversees the research development and funding activities at IU Bloomington including distribution of funds for equipment, facilities, faculty start-ups, and the internal grant programs sponsored by the Office of the Vice Provost for Research. She oversees twenty five research centers and institutes at IUB. Soni received her ophthalmic optics degree from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology in England and her doctor of optometry (OD) degree and MS degree in pathology from Indiana University. She joined the School of Optometry as an assistant professor in 1978. In 1995 she helped establish the Borish Center for Ophthalmic Research at Indiana University and served as its founding co-director until 2006. From 1992 to 2004, Soni served the School of Optometry as its associate dean for research. Soni's research focuses on cornea and contact lenses and development and correction of refractive errors.
