Kody Varahramyan joined Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis as vice chancellor for research in July 2008. He is responsible for the advancement of research and scholarly activities, with particular emphasis on interdisciplinary research programs that address important national and global needs. Before joining IUPUI, Dr. Varahramyan worked for the IBM Corp. and was Distinguished Professor of electrical engineering and director of the Institute for Micromanufacturing at Louisiana Tech University. His academic experience also includes appointments as chair of the electrical engineering program, academic director of the electrical engineering, computer science, and physics programs, and associate dean for research and graduate studies in the College of Engineering and Science. He holds a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He has specialized and conducted research in micro/nano scale processes, materials, devices, and systems for biotechnology, environmental, information technology, and other applications. He has developed and led major research and academic programs.
