How much he loved music

Jean Kay

About six years ago Herman Wells — I guess he was in his early 90s — the Sweet Adeline chorus decided to serenade him at Christmastime. He graciously sat outside his house in the cold and listened to us. We couldn't tell whether he heard us or not, but we noticed that his fingers were keeping time on the arm of the chair. Later that year we sang at a celebration at Meadowwood, where he was a guest. We went up to pay our respects to him, and he said, "You sang for me at Christmastime!" So that shows how alert he was and how much he loved music.
