E100: Beginning Modern Greek I (4 cr.)/E491: Elementary Modern Greek for Graduate Students (3 cr.)
A rapid survey of fundamentals designed to acquaint the student with the oral and written language. Especially useful for those planning to study or travel in Greece and for those planning to read modern Greek literature. E491 is for graduate reading knowledge. Credit will not count toward degree. I Sem.
E150: Beginning Modern Greek II (4 cr.)/E492: Readings in Modern Greek for Graduate Students (3 cr.)
Second semester of a rapid survey of fundamentals designed to acquaint the student with the oral and written language. Especially useful for those planning to study or travel in Greece and for those planning to read modern Greek literature. Prerequisite: E100 or equivalent. E492 is for graduate advanced reading knowledge. Credit will not count toward degree. Prerequisite: E491 or equivalent. II Sem.
E200: Second-Year Modern Greek (3 cr.)
Completion of grammar and syntax not covered in E100-E150 and practice in reading selections from a number of modern writers. Prerequisite: E150 or equivalent. Graduate students enrolling must have either taken E491 or placement examination. Course will build on language skills acquired during first semester. This will involve covering more advanced grammar, vocabulary, and developing writing skills. Emphasis placed on verbal expression. For graduate reading knowledge. Credit will not count toward degree. I Sem.
E250: Readings in Modern Greek Writers (3 cr.)
Continuation of first-semester E200 Second-Year Modern Greek. Students enrolling must have either taken E200 or placement exam. Course will build on language skills acquired during first semester. This will involve covering more advanced grammar and vocabulary, and developing writing skills. Emphasis placed on verbal expression. Prerequisite: E200 or equivalent.
