K-12 Teacher Grants

As a United States Department of Education Title VI National Resource Center, WEST provides funding for K-12 teachers and  teacher educators to enhance their knowledge and instruction of Western Europe and Western European languages.

CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT GRANTS

Grants of $2000 each are available for teachers who are interested in writing a new curricular unit pertaining to Western Europe. The grants are intended to compensate teachers who take a course, travel, or conduct research to enhance their knowledge about Western Europe and prepare curricular units accordingly. The units should meet state academic standards for a particular area and will be made available to the general public. Priority will be given to curricular units that deal with contemporary (post-1989) issues and to teachers in the Midwest. Application materials should include:

  • Two letters of support (from principal, chair, colleague, or professor)
  • 2-3 page Propsal for curricular unit that includes:
    • brief explanation of why you would like to create this unit
    • description of the curriculum unit
    • state academic standards that will be addressed and a brief explanation of how they will be used
    • what activities you will participate in to enhance your knowledge on the subject matter (please send information regarding your specific program or travel plans if applicable)

Grant funds will be dispersed upon completion and receipt of curriculum units by the Center.

EXTENDED DEADLINE: March 1, 2010.
Award announcements will be made in April.
Please note: K-12 teachers and teacher educators are eligible to apply (must be a US citizen or permanent resident).
