Alison Behling
Alison is from Morgantown, West Virginia. She graduated from West Virginia University in December, 2003 with Bachelor of Arts degrees in International Studies, German, and Environmental Geoscience. She then studied at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where she earned her Master of Arts in Germanic Languages and Literatures in May 2006. She worked as an intern on two separate occasions in Germany: once with the West Virginia Development Office in Munich, and once with the German Federal Foreign Office's Task Force on Environmental and Biopolitical Issues in Berlin. Her interests include environmental thought, politics, and public action in Germany; the various Green Parties of Western Europe, especially Germany's die Grünen; European Union environmental policy and institutions; and East German culture and literature.
Robert Larsen
Bob pursued his undergraduate studies at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and completed medical school at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Following residency training and five years of private practice in Erie, Pennsylvania he spent 14 years of his military medical career in Germany. The West European Studies Program has provided an ideal opportunity to pursue his interests in European intellectual history, the German healthcare system, and the utilization of evidence in policy making.
Christine McGinley
Christine McGinley is from Indianapolis, Indiana and completed her undergraduate studies at Indiana University, Bloomington. Highlights at Indiana University include majors in Spanish and Political Science, as well as studies in Literature. During her undergraduate career, Christine studied Spanish in both Spain and Mexico. Christine is currently working on a joint Master's Degree in West European Studies and Public Affairs concentrating in Comparative and International Affairs. Christine's research interests include regionalism and Non governmental associations within the EU, as well as issues relating to Muslims in Western Europe. This semester Christine plans to be a Spanish associate instructor for European Issues in a Foreign Language.
Paul Pass
Paul is from Columbus, Ohio and completed his undergraduate studies at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. His highlights at Miami included a major in International Studies, minors in Spanish and European Area Studies, and a semester studying at a 13th century chateau in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Paul's research interests include small state and micro-state actors in the European Union, renewable energy in Europe, and the economic history of Belgium and Luxembourg since 1870.
Tristan Reitz
Tristan is from Angola, Indiana and completed his undergraduate work at Purdue University in Kinesiology with a minor in Spanish and English. On a physical therapy internship in Spain he discovered his love of European history and culture and decided to pursue this interest in Graduate School. Tristan's research interests are Muslim immigration and integration into Western Europe, and Spanish politics.
Sonja Rother
Sonja Rother was born in Germany and raised in Luxembourg. She completed her undergraduate and graduate studies in Italy, where she gained a Master in Translation and Conference Interpretation from the University of Trieste. She has always been interested in European languages and culture and is in her first year in the WEST program. Her main research interests are European history, languages, and German immigrants in the US.
Andy Satchwell
Originally from Carmel, Indiana, Andy completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Pittsburgh receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and a Certificate in European Union Studies. He spent a rewarding summer working for U.S. Public Interest Research Group as a legislative intern, having the opportunity to work with Congressmen on environmental legislation. Andy is pursuing a Master's Degree in West European Studies and his research interests include international economics, EU Competition Policy and European nationalism.
Alma Torres Rojo
Alma is from Mexico City, Mexico where she completed her undergraduate degree of Public Accounting at Universidad La Salle. She started working in auditing and developed an interest in international business and the pharmaceutical industry, after working and traveling in Latin America and Europe. She is a Fulbright scholar in the joint program MBA and MA in WEST and her research interests include FDI, international finance and international business management. Last year Alma was a Spanish associate instructor for European Issues in a Foreign Language.
Tia Trueblood
Tia is from a dairy farm in Salem, Indiana. After receiving Bachelor's degrees in Psychology and French from Purdue University, she worked as an English Lectrice at L'Université de Haute-Alsace in Mulhouse, France. Tia began graduate studies at Indiana University in the Spring of 2007, with interests in the structure of European higher education, French language and pastries, and most recently, Dutch.
