Workshop Library Database

The library database includes records of all items help by the Workshop Library as well as selected publications held by other libraries. The database has approximately 68,000 records. Unfortuatly, the database can only be accessed on the public computers in the library.

Tutorial and Search Tips

To open the database

To open the database, log on to a public computer in the library with the username "libraryw" and the password "3rd513np". Then open the library database by clicking on the icon entitled Library Master 4.0 located on the desktop.

To Search for Records

Click on the binoculars in the toolbar at the top of the screen

To search by author, title or keyword click on the "Field Contents" button. Select the firld you wish to display, click "OK", then type in your search terms. Highlight the item you wish to search and click on "Select". At this point you may wish to edit your search using the operators found in the list located below. It is often helpful to use the "*" truncator. Next, click on "find".

To search other fields such as regions and sectors (see lists below), click on the "Field Name" button then select the search term and click "OK". Next type your search term. Always use quotation marks around your search terms.

To view your search results, sue the arrow keys or the "page down" and "page up" keys. To view the full record, press the "return" key or select the record by clicking "view>>full view." To go back to the list of records, click "view>>brief view".

Search Examples

Browsing for Records

Click on the arrow next to the box labeled "record number" in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. You can now select the author, editor, title, or keyword field.

Next click on the arrow next to the box in the upper right-hand portion of the screen and begin to type your search term.

To veiw a specific record, use the arrow keys to highlight the record, then press "enter". Now you are in "full view" mode. To go back to the list of records, select "view>>brief view" from the menus on the top of the screen

Marking, Saving and Printing Search Results

Marking records

You can mark records to view or print as you browse by clicking on the box labeled "mark record" at the top of the screen in the full view mode, or by clicking on the box to the left of the list in the brief view mode.

When you are ready to view your marked records, select "view>>marked records" from the menus on the top of the screen

Saving or Printing Records

In order to print or save records, you must create a report. In order to do this, select "report>>generate report"

To save your search results or marked records to a file, change the destination from printer to work processor file. Next choose where you want to save the file, type in the file name and select the type of file you would like, click on save, then OK.

If you have trouble creating the report, you may need to select the style sheet, format and sort order. To do this, click the layout tab in the report dialog box and select:
