Big Man On Campus
Dedicated Sisters Unite A Community
Zeta Tau Alpha celebrates National Breast Cancer Awareness month in October by hosting its annual philanthropy, Big Man on Campus (BMOC). The event marks a celebration of breast cancer survivors. Males representing different organizations at Indiana University show-off their talents-singing, dancing, comedy-to compete for the title of 'Big Man on Campus.' Not to mention, a year's worth of bragging rights. Members of ZTA, the contestants, and the “coaches” who assist, commit to countless hours of practice time and fundraising efforts to put on an entertaining show for the IU and Bloomington community, and to raise money for breast cancer research and awareness.
This year, the theme is "Rockin for a Cure," and ZTA members will work to raise $160,000 to help women and men across the nation.
BMOC 2007
Last year, the members of IU's ZTA chapter were proud to donate over $137,000 to the cause. Beneficiaries of the funds included the ZTA Foundation, Indiana University Medical Center, The Vera Bradley Foundation, Susan G. Komen, and the American Cancer Society. Bloomington mayor, Mark Kruzan, declared October 12th "Big Man on Campus" day for the city of Bloomington.
Dressed as David Hasselhoff from Baywatch, 2007's winner from Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, Nate Schrader, raised about $16,000 single handedly for the cause. His talent showcased on the piano wowed judges and audience members alike. Second place belonged to Austin Hall of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, who raised about $12,000 and dressed as Disney favorite from Finding Nemo, Nemo. BMOC is made possible by devoted students like Nate and Austin, and communities inside and outside of Bloomington.
