About

The O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs' wide range of minors and certificates addresses environmental, health, policy, and management issues from a variety of perspectives and may be an ideal complement to your major.

In the Certificate in Applied Research and Inquiry program, you will:

  • Explore how important thinkers from economics, law, political science, environmental science, and sociology have approached crucial issues of governance and public affairs.
  • Research an important contemporary policy issue.
  • Learn how to formulate a strong research question, write a literature review, collect and organize data, and write a prospectus.
  • Work with faculty members and experts from outside the university on your thesis, forming a vital network for developing a meaningful career path.

All courses in the Certificate in Applied Research and Inquiry (CARI) count toward the General Honors Notation from the Hutton Honors College and the O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs Honors Notation.
