About

An arts education transforms students into critical observers of the world. When students begin to craft images, it helps them discover parts of themselves that have previously gone unexpressed. Our art education major prepares you to teach students of all ages, from kindergarten through grade 12.

Your course work will help you develop instructional techniques in a variety of artistic media, from painting to computer art. You'll also receive a strong grounding in education theory, instructional methodologies, and content area course work. You will have the opportunity to get real-world experience teaching at Saturday Art School, a community arts education program for students from kindergarten through grade 6.

The program culminates in a semester-long student teaching experience where you'll test your understanding in real-world situations and refine your strategies for instruction and assessment based on your experiences. You may take on additional field engagements as early as your second semester, depending upon your admissions status, through our early field experiences program.
