Alumni Band Celebrates the Rose Bowl 50th at Homecoming

Larry Lafferty and dozens of Rose Bowl band veterans returned to Bloomington for Homecoming weekend to celebrate 50 years since Director Fred Ebbs, in his first year at IU, took the Marching Hundred to Pasadena.

A near-capacity crowd attended IU Homecoming 2017.

Around 200 Marching Hundred alumni also attended the IU Homecoming game against Michigan. After trailing the whole game, the Hoosiers tied the Wolverines with only seconds left in the fourth quarter, but lost in overtime, 27-20.

Still, the Marching Hundred Alumni Band carried on the Tradition of Excellence, checking in at 6:30 am, honoring Steve Pratt with a Newell Long Award, rehearsing indoors and outdoors, and having lunch, all before 11:00 am. The band played “Grand Old Flag” and “Get Ready” for the pregame show, and joined with the Junior Band for “Sing, Sing, Sing” at halftime.

You are invited to see hundreds of great photographs of the weekend, including Friday’s parade, on John Braude’s Facebook page. And check here for information about the December 29 Alumni Pep Band game!
