As part of his studies of the biological sciences, Ray has worked in the laboratory of Distinguished Professor of Biology Curtis M. Lively, investigating topics related to host-pathogen co-evolutionary dynamics and the evolution of sexual reproduction. In this, Ray has co-authored papers that have been published in the journals Science, Evolution, and The American Naturalist. Ray also received the Biology Undergraduate Award and the Rex Grossman Scholarship.
