2011 Juried Art Show
The Kinsey Institute is now accepting applications from all artists 18 years of age and older who are creating artworks that explore:
sex / gender / sexuality / eroticism / reproduction / romantic relationships
the politics of sex and gender / the human figure / illness and sexuality
Since 1947 The Kinsey Institute has promoted interdisciplinary research and scholarship in the fields of human sexuality, gender, and reproduction. For our 6th Annual Juried Art Show we are looking for artworks that explore ideas or address topics related to the Institute's mission. Suitable artworks can vary from the erotic to the political; from general statements to deeply personal works about one's own experiences. Artists may submit work for the exhibition online or by mailing the application form with images saved on compact disc. Applications must be submitted or postmarked by February 14, 2011.
Open to all artists 18 years and older creating work exploring sex, gender, sexuality, eroticism, reproduction, romantic relationships, and/or the sensual human figure. Entries must be original works in any media including: painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, video, sculpture, ceramics, fibers, mixed media, and performance pieces. Proposals for installations may be submitted, but artists are responsible for installing the work and for a all expenses involved. Models must 18 years or over and model release forms provided upon request. Maximum size 60” in any direction including frame or stand. Max weight 75 lbs. unless special arrangements are made. Works must be framed and wired for installation (no saw tooth hangers). The jurors reserve the right to disqualify any work that varies from the submitted image.
The nonrefundable application fee is $30 for the first piece, $35 for two, and $40 for three. Diptychs will be considered two pieces and triptychs will be considered three pieces. Please limit your application to three works.
Online submissions may be made here. Images must be jpeg, png or gif formats and less than 3 MB.
Applying by mail
To submit an application by traditional mail include:
- Completed application form (PDF).
- Images of art work in digital format saved on compact disc. Images must be saved as a JPG, no larger than 8” in any one direction or orientation, and 300dpi or less. Compact disc should be labeled with name of artist and title of artwork.
- Payment in U.S. dollars (check or cash only). Checks should be made payable to The Kinsey Institute.

Artist submitting video work must mail compact disc and cannot submit online.
Applications will not be returned to artist.
Shipment & Delivery
Shipping artwork to and from the gallery is the responsibility of the artist. All shipping must be prepaid. Artist may use his/her own shipping company preference, and is responsible for scheduling delivery and providing prepaid return shipping labels (for USPS, FedEx or UPS) for the return of the work. Works must be labeled with title and artist’s name. Shipping cartons must be reusable and within shipping guidelines. Late or damaged work will not be exhibited. Deliver or ship work to the SoFA Gallery—instructions, dates and times will be included in the acceptance letter. Dates and times for hand-deliveries will be announced with acceptance letter. All work must arrive by May 11, 2011.

Receipt of the completed form constitutes your agreement with all conditions established in the prospectus. The Kinsey Institute/Indiana University provides insurance for the artworks while on site. It is the responsibility of the artist to provide all shipping costs and insurance on works during shipment. A loan agreement will be sent to all accepted artists. Consent to reproduce works photographically is assumed to be granted unless specifically reserved in writing.
Sale of Artwork
Artists may choose to have their artworks available for purchase throughout the exhibit. Any work sold by the gallery is subject to a 40% commission. Under no circumstances will work be withdrawn before the end of the show due to sale.
Return of Work
Exhibited hand-delivered work must be picked up the week of August 2-3. Shipped works will be returned August 9. Artists are responsible for providing postage or prepaid shipping labels for the return of their work. Nothing may be shipped COD. Any work that is left at The Kinsey Institute after August 31, 2011 will become the property of the Institute unless shipping arrangements have been made.

About the Show
The 2011 Juried Art Show will take place at the Indiana University School of Fine Arts Gallery from May 20 through July 30, 2011.

All works selected by the jurors will be included in The Kinsey Institute’s 2011 Juried Art Show at Indiana University’s School of Fine Arts Gallery, May 20 to July 30, and included in a virtual version of the exhibit on The Kinsey Institute's website. An opening reception will take place at the SoFA Gallery on May 20. A cash prize of $300 will be awarded to the artist whose work is voted “Best in Show”. Similarly, a $200 prize will be awarded to the work voted “Gallery Visitors’ Choice” the night of the opening reception.
