When can an informed consent short form be used?
An informed consent short form can be used when all of the following are true:
- The study participant or Legally Authorized Representative(LAR) does not speak English
- The study participant or LAR speak only a language that was not anticipated for the study population
- An appropriate consent form in the participant’s or LAR’s language has not been approved by the IRB
- There is not enough time or demand for the IRB to approve a consent in their language
