What is the designated member review (DMR) process and how will it affect new protocol submissions?

PHS Policy has two accepted methods of protocol review. The first if is known as “full-committee review” (FCR) and the other is “designated-member review” (DMR). Under the DMR process the IACUC Chair or designee assigns committee members to review a protocol. If any of the DMR reviewers or any member of the IACUC calls for FCR, then the protocol must be discussed at the next monthly meeting of the IACUC. If there is no call for Full Committee Review, the review process can proceed without the delay as DMR.
