Two small pith balls approximately 3/8 inch in diameter are suspended by nylon thread to a common support. The balls show strong repulsion when they are charged with either an ebonite rod or a glass rod. When a charged rod is brought near the pith ball it induces a charge of opposite sign on the side of the pith ball that is nearest the rod. The pith balls are attracted to the rod and cling to it until they accumulate a charge of the same sign as the rod. When they have accumulated a similar charge they are violently repelled. The pith balls will be repelled and will stand out away from the rod a considerable distance.
