Using Sakai 2.9 Gradebook, how do I add, edit, or delete an item?

Note: To complete these procedures, you must be assigned a role having the necessary permissions. To determine your role, follow the directions in Participant roles. For a basic understanding of roles and permissions, see Permissions and roles: Overview.

Adding a new Gradebook item

To add a new Gradebook item:

  1. In the menubar, click Gradebook, and then click Add Gradebook Item(s).

  2. On the "Add Gradebook Item(s)" screen, fill in the following information:

    • Title: A title is required for all Gradebook items. The title can be up to 32 characters long.

    • Gradebook Item Point Value/Relative Weight: For points gradebooks, enter a total point value for the Gradebook item. This must be greater than zero. Decimal values are permitted to two decimal places.

      For percentage gradebooks, enter a relative weight for the item. This can be any value. For instance, an item with a relative weight of 2 will count twice as much as an item with a relative weight of 1.

    • Due Date: To designate a due date for a Gradebook item, either manually enter the due date (e.g., 11/28/12), or click the calendar icon

        to select the due date for the item. (This is an optional field.)

    • Category: If you have created one or more categories in Gradebook Setup, you can assign an item to a category using the drop-down list. This is optional, but if categories are defined, items not assigned to a category cannot be included in course grade calculations. For more, see Using categories and weighted grades in Gradebook.
  3. To allow students to view the grade for this item, check Release this item to Students. Note the following:

    • Display released Gradebook items to students must be selected in Gradebook Setup for students to see their grades. For more, see Making grades available to students.

    • Selecting Release this item to Students will allow students to see their grades as soon as you enter them and click Save Changes.
  4. Check or uncheck Include this item in course grade calculations, as desired.

    Note: For Gradebook items excluded from the course grade calculation, students will see their grades in parentheses, along with a notation explaining that they are excluded from the course grade.

  5. To create additional Gradebook items, click Add Another Gradebook Item. You can create multiple Gradebook items and add them at the same time.

  6. When you have entered all the necessary information for each Gradebook item, click Add Item(s).

Editing an existing Gradebook item

To edit an existing Gradebook item:

  1. In the menubar, click Gradebook.

  2. Locate the Gradebook item you want to modify in the "Gradebook Items Summary" list, and next to the title, click Edit.

  3. Edit the Gradebook item settings, and then click Save Changes.

Deleting a Gradebook item

To delete a Gradebook item:

  1. In the menubar, click Gradebook.

  2. Locate the Gradebook item you want to delete in the "Gradebook Items Summary" list, and click the title.

  3. On the "Gradebook Items Summary" page, click Remove gradebook item from gradebook.

  4. On the "Remove Gradebook Item" confirmation page, check Remove this gradebook item and all associated scores from the gradebook.

  5. To delete the item from the Gradebook, click Remove.
